I purchased the Loftie alarm clock over the Labor Day weekend in 2022, so it’s been almost four months at the time of writing this. The sale price after shipping and taxes was $124.
To be honest, I didn’t do much research before purchasing the device. I can’t recall where I read about the clock, but a few friends loved their white noise machines, even travel everywhere with them. I’ve been falling asleep to the radio for the vast majority of my life. I thought I’d give it a try to give my phone a rest at night.
Visually, I like the simplicity, opted for the all black version. Having the lighting under the clock and a dimmer makes it a really pleasant little nightlight.
Setting up the device at first was a little slow. A few connection errors and then downloading updates and installing, it may have been close to an hour before I could finish set up.
The included sounds are really pleasant, there are ambient nature and environment sounds, and various colors of noice including white noise. My current favorite is the ‘rain on tent’ option, I grew up camping every summer and just loved it when it rained. Such a warming feeling to fall asleep to the sound again.
What I don’t like so far is the inability to use the mobile app for making changes to what’s playing or turning it on/off. We can adjust volume and light, so hopefully this will be updated in the software?
I did find myself in the dark one night, fumbling with the clock’s analog buttons I managed to accidentally change settings and start an alarm while still half asleep. I had clock radio from the late 80s, correction I still have it packed away, still works, but I like it because the core functions have a sliding switch. You have to move the slider to make the change vs tapping a button. Not a dealbreaker, but something to consider if you’re one to fumble on your nightstand in the darkness.
In the end, I think it’s a bit overkill for $150. Especially because for the size, they could include a bigger battery inside to power it for travel. With limited app functionality and lack of true portability, this is a splurge product. If you’re on a limited budget, much more sensible options out there.
